FRAMTUNG Lunch Bag (22 cm L x 17cm W x 35 cm H )

I needed a new lunch bag, and I fancy this one so much that I purchased despite having the impression that would break easily due to the thin fabric. It is so stylish that I couldn't resist the temptation.

Yes, it is pretty, but it holds my usual stuff without a problem. I usually carry a large solid food thermos (usually heavy), an piece of fruit, an small container with cookies or nuts, several serviettes and two small spoons. The bag has insulation, so it is perfect to prolong the heat of my thermos. I could put much more inside, as it is very spacious. It is also very light and easy to carry. I love the front mesh pocket, as I usually put my mobile there when carrying it or while having lunch. The bag is water-resistant, which makes it great for the occasional splash or leakage. Great price, as well!

UPPDATERA Boxes (White & Antracite) (33.5 cm W x 24 cm D x 14.5 cm H)

I love all the Uppdatera boxes due to the range of sizes and elegant functional design and colour. They're made of very good quality plastic (Kmart's imitation isn't half as good) with rounded edges, two handles (which make it easier to carry them) and lower front wall to facilitate access. I have two large size and two small ones both in anthracite and white colours. I use them to hold containers with painting brushes and tools, small tubes and bottles of paint and other craft tools. They hold ton tons of stuff, even the small sizes, and they are a great way to organise my desk in a way that is both stylish and practical. I love the fact that  I can repurpose these boxes for other uses in the bathroom, pantry or kitchen if needed. They clean easily from paint splashes, as well.

DESIGNER Marcus Arvonen.

MATERIALS Polypropylene plastic (min. 50% recycled).

SATSUMAS Plant stand (78 cm H)

This is a very easy to assemble plant shelf. It's great  to hold small and medium-size plants, photos, pictures and decor items. I have a mix of them all and it looks fab. Due to its triangular different levels shape, it's perfect for corner areas. I love the Scandi traditional bamboo and white metal combo. The bamboo is solid but the piece isn't heavy at all. Not a cheap plant stand, but it's good quality and really great design.

MIND Only indoors use.

MATERIALS Shelf: Steel, Powder coating. Leg: Bamboo, Clear acrylic lacquer.

MEASUREMENTS 78 cm H. Max load per plate 5 kg. Plates are 10 cm diam.

LOMVIKEN Frame (black) (32x32 cm)

I love the LOMVIKEN frames series. This minimalist frame looks very elegant, and it looks way more expensive that it is. The acid-free warm white passepartout (mount) mixed with the matte black fine frame are a very elegant combo. Like other Ikea frames, the glass is actually glass-looking clear plastic. It looks totally translucent, but it won't break if it falls down or you move houses.

This size is the only square in the line. Depending on whether you use the passepartout or not, you can fit in larger or smaller pictures. This size can be mixed and matched with the other sizes and formats to create a wall mural or gallery.

The back wall mount is also included. I miss this line lacking a stand support at the back, like other Ikea frame lines have, which would have made it more versatile.

Very easy to assemble.

ÄDELSTEN Marble Pestle and Mortar (10 H x 14 Dia cm)

This is a marble mortar and pestle. The pestle has two sides (one flat and one rounded), which I alternate depending on what I'm crushing. The mortar also has two surfaces, the hollow one, and the one on the base, which is is a bit concave and perfect for dry spices.

I forgot to wash it the first time I used it, and the black surface shed some black 'dust'. Ain't sure whether the black colour is that of the marble or something added on, so I would have liked this being clearly stated.

The set is heavy, at least for me, so I would not put it on a feeble surface. I think this might have been compensated if the based had been made of solid timber or bamboo.

KLYNNON Handmade Bamboo Plant Pot (12 cm)

This is a simply beautiful bamboo pot that goes great with Skandi decor. It is very light, so it doesn't add any weight to the pot I use it with. It comes with a plastic low container (saucer kinda), which prevents any leaked water from affecting the bamboo. I use it with one of my artificial plants, and it looks fabulous. The different sizes of the pot have different waving patterns, something I love, as I intend to buy them. Indoors only.

FINFORDELA Bendable Chopping Board (28x36 cm)

This is a two-piece set chopping board and counter mat that I use all the time. I have several of these on my kitchen table, under my wooden chopping board, and also on the counter where I have my small kitchen appliances. I mostly use as mat, as it is cleans easily and looks great with a simple wash. Personally, I prefer cutting my meat or veggies on wood not on plastic, but these pieces are great to chop anything and tip it out into a cooking pan or pot. The smooth surface goes on top of the surface you want to use it on. Economical and good looking.

PELARKORSBAR Cushion cover (50x50 cm)

This is an abstracted botanical cover, which I love. It's very cool and edgy, and goes well with minimalist decor and Scandi offices. Great for reclining chairs. It can be easily removed via the zip.  I haven't washed it yet, so I will comment on my experience when I do, but it's made of 100% polyester so I expect it to be durable and keep the colours for a long time.  Not two Pelarkorsbar cushions are identical as they're
made from random-cut pieces from the same fabric. As this polyester, the fabric isn't especially nice to touch.

XIAOFEIPENG USB-C 25W PD Fast Charger

I bought this fast charger just to have a spare charger for some of my devices. This is good looking, economical USB-C only charger, very light, good looking, and it does the job. It is compatible with all my USB-C devices, which is great.
Unlike other similar devices, it only has an USB C port, no extra ports or kinds of USB ports included. I haven't timed the charging time for my small devices, but it's quite fast. The  company states that it fully charges devices in 60 minutes, so that is not especially fast I'd say!  The company offers a 18-month replacement policy, so check the enclosed instructions.

1000 HOUR Instant Brows Mascara (Black/Dark Brown) (6 g)

This is a small wand specifically designed to temporarily colour eyebrows. The wand is very small and allows great definition and cover. The tint perfectly covers greys and looks very natural. A tiny bit is enough to completely transform my eyebrows. It's like a mascara for the eyebrows. I always slightly rub on my eyebrows with a cotton pad to remove any excess tint. I also use cotton buds if the tint goes on my skin. I remove it easily using any cleansing facial or eye product. Good priced but small container. Perfect for travelling as well. One of my beauty staples.

INNER Soft Cushion pad (50x50 c)

I don't like this cushion pad. It is too flat and formless so it doesn't look good on its own or as an accent cushion, no matter how pretty the cover. It is not firm or plump so this is more appropriate for a reclining chair, or the floor, than anything else.

It can be used outdoors but store away indoors when not in use.

Telus Health (Free Counselling)

Telus Health is a multinational corporate wellbeing company contracted by major private companies and government agencies to provide workers with free wellbeing tools to deal with stressful situations (so that management doesn't have to deal with those.)

I've used this service for quite a few years now. Most of the counsellors I got were all very nice, but also unhelpful. Many of them have little knowledge or qualifications. Others are experienced counsellors but their expertise isn't in the field you need them for, and you wonder why you're connected with them. Most of them listen to you  for sure, let you vent, but too many show no interest or attention and respond with ready-made sentences, like, I'm so sorry to hear, oh that's terrible, aha uhm, but there is no true empathetic listening or anything genuine when they say that they feel for you. You can feel when a person feels for you.

Many of the items of 'advice' or 'tools' they give you is just common sense, something that your friends/family would tell you or you already know. E.g. don't take things personally, breath in an out, contact HR, talk to the person who did this to you, journal, talk to your friends and family, do a list of pros and cons, use a budget sheet, discuss this with your spouse. Other times the information they provide you with is easily available by looking up Google.

Not sure if they get paid much, but quite a few of the counsellors I've spoken to when I was really distressed were not in a professional setting but cooking at home, driving, walking from one place to another. That's the antithesis of what a professional counsellor or health professional should be doing. If a counsellor is doing their chores while talking to a client, their focus is not the client, is the money they get for picking up the call.

The last counsellor I got said that she'd provide me with some helpful stuff at the end of the call, then she muted herself, she was cooking, was irresponsive for a minute, so she was perhaps at the toilet or talking to someone else, then came up and said the usual, so sorry, it sounds terrible, have you had the same problem at work before? Like no. Then she said that she cannot help me because she doesn't know me, (yes, she said that) and asked if I wanted to book another session. I said no because I work FT and it has to be weekends or evenings, and she lost her interest. You don't need to know anyone to help them, especially if you are a professional counsellor. A counsellor is a low-level professional, and I wasn't consulting on mental health or anything that you need to be careful, like someone who has depression or mental illness, but about work-related stuff for goodness' sake. You need to have, I don't know, some sort of professionalism and empathy. She is not the only one. Too often they want to use all your sessions to milk you and continue doing nothing and uttering platitudes with no real empathy or interest in you. Empathetic listening is at the core of counselling, so why they cannot do the bare minimum? They aren't volunteers, but are paid for the service. They have profiles on Linkedin and/or private practices. Yet, they seem to be cut out by the same tailor.  One wonders why these people choose a career that clearly doesn’t suit their natural qualities.

I have several work colleagues who have mentioned to me the same negative experience with Telus Health. They all say the same thing, that it was a waste of their time, that they don't help you, they hear you but don't listen. So this is not only my own experience.

There is no option at the end of the call for us to rate the counsellor's service. In most cases, at least for me, they call you, so it's understandable that they don't ask you for feedback. There is no quality control :) Even when I've been transferred to the counsellor directly from the phone operator, there hasn't been a request for feedback. That's good for them because... look at the reviews on Trustpilot!

Be careful, they record  the calls if they are in their office and have to ask for permission to do that. You can say no, of course. If they don't mention anything upfront you can easily ask them before the conversation starts. Also, it is unclear how or who handles your personal data. Don't provide information that is not strictly necessary, like your name and phone. Otherwise, the counsellor fishes for it during the consultation or so they say, that the company demands them to do that.

For people without an inner circle, Telus might provide some relief as, worst case scenario,  they listen to you and are nice overall, and it costs you nothing. In the best possible scenario, they will be helpful and offer several sessions that might help you to deal with specific issues. Yet, contact them without any expectations or you'll be disappointed.  If you have mental health issues, just talk to your GP, because some of the counsellors here will drive you bananas :).

I want to finish with something positive. I've had 3 occasions where the counsellors were really helpful and truly genuine. They helped me make my mind, take a decision or just appease my upset.  Also, the girls who pick up your initial call and book you in and do your profiling are always sweethearts.

IKEA 365+ Stainless-Steel Square Food container (600 ml)

This is another brilliant IKEA 365+ food container that I use all the time. It's very small, but it fits my small air-fryer beautifully and it has replaced the very toxic stinky greasy silicone liners I had before.

It's not only an air-fryer container. I use it to store leftovers or small quantities of cooked vegetables in the fridge (the plastic or bamboo lids are sold separately), and to reheat and bake in my normal oven.

It washes beautifully. Although it will lose its lustre with use, mine still looks great despite the many uses.

I wish they made this one in larger sizes.

DESIGNER Unknown.

MIND  Freezer, dishwasher and over safe.

IKEA 365+ Food storage basket with lid (15 W x 15 D x 11 H cm)

I'm a fan of IKEA 365+ products as I have had many for years and they are still in great condition. This basket is too cute and Skandie for me to pass. I have two of these to store onions, garlic, ginger, turmeric, apples, and another two for small items of chocolate (Ferrero Rocher balls and small chocolate protein bars for example). They look great on the my kitchen table, and the mesh is perfect to keep onions and garlic aired, and to see though the contents.
In the past I've also used to store used batteries and other small items.

They are stackable, so they occupy little space, whether they have the lid on or off.

DESIGNER Unknown.

MIND Don't use in the fridge or outdoors. NOT microwave safe. NOT dishwasher safe.

DRAGON Stainless-Steel Salad/dessert Fork Set (16 cm)

I bought this pack in a hurry as I was having a gathering at home and needed some extra dessert forks. These look simple, which is great to match with any other cutlery design, They are made of stainless steel, dishwasher safe, and ridiculously cheap.

I regretted the purchase as soon as I got the parcel. These aren't desert forks, too big for that. They  are more salad forks than anything else. The stainless steel is paper thin, so it can bent easily. Yes, the design is so simple that there is no design :)

RAMSTA Battery-operated Minilamp (White) (27 mm H x 70 mm D)

I bought one of these to try the product, and I use it inside one of my wardrobes. Despite the small size, it gives a strong light and occupies no space. It's easy to operate and install, and works with three AAA batteries. You can keep this in your handbag, or put it on top of something, on the ceiling of a wardrobe or cupboard (the base is covered with a peeling sticker that exposes the sticky part), or just keep it aside as an emergency lamp. It

Make sure that you fasten the cover well enough so that it doesn't fall or the lights don't go off. If the cover is not fastened enough, there is not enough pressure to make the batteries work.

I've had mine on my wardrobe's ceiling for several months and it's still working well and hasn't fallen off.

The main downside is that you can buy packages of similar 2-4 mini-lamps at Coles, Woolies, Kmart or Amazon a cheaper price per unit.

MIND Do not mix old and new batteries, different brands or types.

MATERIALS

Base: ABS plastic
Shade: Acrylic plastic

CARE Wipe clean with a dry cloth.

KJUGE Pouffe with storage (Knisa dark grey) (38 cm D x 33 cm H)

I have several of  these around my home, full with travelling gear, emergency kit, and soft furnishings. They aren't the most posh looking pouffes, but they are modular, and can be used separated or form a combination, like in the photo. They aren't visually appealing, but I find that the dark grey is not visually disruptive either. They are very light so I can move them around easily, even when they are full. It holds tons of stuff and you can sit on them as long as you aren't 110Kgs of weight or more. They fit in the Kallax modular shelves, but they don't look good in those, to be honest. I don't like the outward label, which is also a pull, because it lacks finesse. The pouffe is easily to fold and store when not in use.

DESIGNER  IKEA of Sweden.

CARE It cannot be washed or dry-cleaned, just vacuumed or wiped with a damp cloth. The cover has a lighfastness of 5-6 on a scale of 8, so it has high resistance to colour fading. This cover’s ability to resist abrasion has been tested to handle 40,000 cycles (30,000+ cycles means a good ability to resist abrasion).

MATERIALS
  • Lid: Polyurethane foam 25 kg/cu.m., Plywood.
  • Frame/ Support panel: Fibreboard.
  • Fabric: 100% polyester (min. 90% recycled).

Bosch Home and Garden Spirit Level (12 cm )

This is such a great tool to have at home. Pocket size, easy to store, and very practical. I've used it for small DIY decor and assemblage projects and it works beautifully. The fluoro bubble window makes it clearly visible even when the work area is a bit dark. It's sturdy and has the classic Bosch brand colours. A must in any DIY kit.

SVAMPIG Sponge (Grey-Green)

Not a fancy design or good-looking sponge but it was so cheap that I couldn't resist the temptation. Both sides are covered by a scourer liner, so that's great. Having said that, this is an average sponge. The sponge part is actually very good quality, but the scourer liner detaches easily, which defeats its purpose. Unfortunately, this also happens with branded sponges, so at least this is cheaper.  I find that some of the Kmart novelty sponges are better quality than these.
