The place is a bit run down, and needs an update re seating area and interior. However, you don't go there to enjoy the premises.
My burger was excellent regarding flavour, easy to eat, well assembled, and the way is presented is perfect not to make a mess on the table. My only criticism is that there was a noticeable difference in temperature between the bun and the filling, something I found odd. Flavour is everything to me, so this was a very flavoursome burger.
Onion rings and the accompanying sauce were awesome re flavour, but the rings were a bit oily.
Friendly staff. Fast-ish service.
I'll be back.

Flipside Burger Bar (Northbridge, Perth WA)
222 William St
Northbridge Western Australia 6000

Website
Hours:
Tue-Sun 11:30am til late.
THE PLACE - Centrally located in William St, just steps away from the Culture Centre, Flipside Northbridge has a small, simple and luminous shop, with three seating areas: a few communal/group tables, a long decked table facing the wall and a three-seat table facing the street. I love this one, which is perfect for people watching if you are on your own, On the other hand, who is watching whom? You are being watched, too! I love their bulb lamps and the background music they have! On a more practical level, you can see the guys cooking the burgers, so nothing is hidden and everything looks clean and properly managed.
If the place is full, it can be noisy even loud, especially when there are boisterous men - the "Me-Tarzan-eating-Burger" species. Other days, though, the place is very quiet at lunch, and more enjoyable if you are with your partner or eating alone. If you want a quite place and having a romantic affair with your burger, take it away.
THE FOOD - I am sure that you, like me, have a sensual relationship with your burgers. To me, for them to be fully enjoyable, they have to be nicely sized (yes, size does matter), tender, juicy, tasty, easy to bite and masticate, and manageable with my hands without the thing falling apart or stuff flipping out after the first touch. If this is so, you can do what any burger lover does when facing a good burger - look at it in love and eat it with an expression of unbeatable happiness. You are with me, right? Well, I had just that experience the first day I visited Flipside Northbridge, and, to the date, remains my best experience at Flipside.
This is not a place for fussy eaters, so you get a burger on a plate without any adornment - simple god big burgers. You can adorn them with a bucket of chips :O. They have gluten free rolls, though (paid as an extra).
Their Garden Party Veggie burger is light but flavoursome, very fresh ingredients, and with a delicious fluffy bun and chickpea patty, and I did not feel heavy despite its size. The best one I have eaten at Flipside regarding preparation, textures and assemblage.
Their hot beef burger is my favourite in flavour, despite its simplicity, because the chilly sauce/jam they use is really full of flavour, but not overwhelming in hotness. A hottie!
The classic burger is simple but nice, and not heavy on your stomach, but, for whatever reason the meat patty was a bit on the small size and the cheese unnoticeable...The mini-flip is decently sized for a snack and perfect for a light lunch if you add some chips.
Their chips are thick and crunchy. Simple but nice.
Your burger can take a
while to be prepared, even if they are not full. On the other hand,
this is a guarantee that the food is being prepared in the way it should
be and not rushed out.
THE SERVICE
The staff taking your orders and the waitress are really friendly and smiley, and eager to please.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
- They use iceberg lettuce in many of their burgers, which is very crunchy but not tasteless, so I would replace it with a more flavoursome variety of lettuce.
- I would provide customers with a small knife -Just Burgers's style- to half their burger if they want.
THE DOWNS
- The cooking and assembling staff changes from day to day at lunch (I guess also for dinner), and you will soon notice that the burgers are some days better assembled and prepared than others, and the patty can be on the small side (as in the photo).
- Their chicken burgers are, like in other Perth burgers bars, a fillet, not a burger. Me like burger chick, no fillet chick.
- The long walled table facing the wall is not very inviting. Nobody wants to eat looking at a beautifully empty white wall.

Flipside Northbridge is becoming increasingly popular due to its killer location, the friendliness of the staff, and because, really, who does not like a burger? Still, the burgers are simpler and less tasty than at Grill'd, to which the place reminisces the most in burger philosophy. Their burgers are good-sized, good-prized, very fresh, juicy, easy to eat and move with your hands, and some of them really nice. To be honest, these are the sort of burgers that anybody could prepare at home, which is kind of cool if you are out and feel like eating decently-prepared food. Location 9

There is a lot of meat love going on around the Burger Bistro at Shafto Lane. You mention the place and somebody you know is going to get excited - for you. On the other hand, Burger Bistro sounds like the wholeymolley of burger royalty, no? In that state of excitement I got to the Burger Bistro, so my expectations were very high.
LOCATION - The Burger Bistro is located in the wonderful Shafto Lane, in the heart of the city, an alley with special atmosphere that puts you in the mood for eating or drinking anything, really. The bistro itself is a small functional place, very minimal in decor, clean lines, and a very comfortable seating area both inside and outside. They have big windows to the alley and the place has a wonderful warm light on sunny days, which really transforms the atmosphere of the indoors area for good.
THE FOOD - They have a wide range of gourmet beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian burgers. The quality and freshness of the ingredients is undeniable, as they use Mt Baker chicken, Certified Angus Beef and New Norcia buns. Everything looks fresh, is fresh, is popping colourful (if that can be said!), and tastes good. I ordered the gourmet New Yorker, and it was very tasty. Their fries are cheap and the serving generous. Their selection of drinks is also varied and different, not just the usual Coke.
THE SERVICE - The service is very fast and friendly, especially by the girl behind the counter, who was delightful to everybody despite the hordes of burgers hunters and group gatherers arriving when I visited. The place attracts a varied group of burger lovers from all ages and styles, a lot of groups of young people. Eaters at the BB are very excited about their food, and can be very noisy, in a joyful way.
DOWNS OF THE PLACE - The first down of the place is, mostly, how difficult is to eat their burgers. One of the joys of eating a burger with your hands is that everything is manageable, tender, juicy, easy to bite and masticate, easy to to put up and down on the plate. Obvious, no? Well, I found impossible to do so with my burger. The bun is too hard and chewy, the patty was too hard and dry. What is more, I had difficulties halving my burger with a normal knife, so my plate was a bit messy before I had even started eating. Moreover, the size of the buns is a bit small, so the insides can easily slip out, and there we have more mess, Oh dear, I am Lady Messy. I love New Norcia breads, but I don't like my burgers with these buns, sorry. They should tenderise their meat patties, too. Papaya powder makes wonders.
The second down, shared with any other Perth "burgerseries", is the chicken burgers. Can somebody explain to me why we can't have a chicken burger that has a burger patty instead of a fillet?

If you visit The Burger Bistro without expectations, you will certainly enjoy your experience and meal much more. The place is located in one of the prettiest areas in the city, the burgers are tasty, good quality and satisfying, but their burgers are hard and difficult to eat. They aren't the best burgers in town, that is for sure. A happy medium.Location:8.5

Grill'd Mount Lawley (Mount Lawley, Perth WA)

Mt Lawley 6050
Ph: 9271 9444
Hours:
Mo-Su: 11AM - 10PM

Grill'd Mount Lawley is one of those restaurants that succeeds because does things well and keeps it simple. It offers five things that guarantee success once the hype of a new business wanes out: good food, good sizing, good service, good location, and a nice ambience suitable to all sorts of people.
The location is fantastic, with enclosed and balcony areas, very welcoming and spacious, in the heart of Mt Lawley. Seat there and let the world pass by.
The selection of burgers is very good, with a variety of beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian patties, plus steak sandwiches and salads. They have gluten-free buns, too. The chicken burgers, well, they are not burgers to me, as to be a burger the meat has to be minced and in a patty. It it has a fillet and not a patty, it is not a burger - simple!
I have tried some of their fancy beef burgers in the past, but now I go directly for the Simple Grill'd without cheese, which is a simple burger delicious in its simplicity, filling but not heavy on your stomach. I love their fries, both in serving sizes, cut, crunchiness, and that mix of rosemary and salt that makes them taste so delicious on their own. The size of the burgers is great, even the smallest one will leave you satisfied, and I eat a lot!
If you have any concerns with the preparation of your food, no problem, seat in front of their assembling area and see how they do it. It is also, how to put it?, entertaining!
The service is very good. I have rarely found a nosey-posey guy/gal, no matter how cool or funky they look. They are a bunch of friendly hard-working chaps, and very accommodating about anything.
The visitors are, uhmmm, mostly men, lots of families during the weekends, and burger lovers in general.
They certainly could improve their plating and sides, but Grill'd serves burgers in its wonderful original rusticity and primitive awesomeness.
TIP
They have free Wi-fi.

Jus Burgers (Northbridge, Perth WA) - CLOSED

Jus Burgers Northbridge is the perfect place for any burger lover who wants a burger that tastes of burger but it is also gourmet-ish.
The variety of patties and burgers is great: different types of beef, chicken and vegetarian burgers, plus the lamb, kangaroo and fish patties. They also have gluten free buns available, which is great if you or your company are celiacs.
It is not only the burgers, but also the serving sizes, the taste of their fries, sauces and pickles, and the variety of sides. It is the mindfulness in plating the burgers, the cuteness of the baby-sized meals, and the terrific service they provide - they should be very proud of having such a great bunch of cool, friendly and efficient people working there.
I love the atmosphere of the place, with its mix of rusticity and artistic details. The first down of Jus Burgers is its tiny size, with not much space beyond the outside seating area and the bottom-end four tables. Not many tables, not many people at the time, therefore, difficult to dine in at peak hours. You have to be there before 12pm if you aren't alone and want a good table at lunch time. Brunch will be a a better option. Otherwise the place is fully-packed, not just the good tables.
The second down is the chicken burger. Who came with the "brilliant" idea that we would like a chicken burger with a dry chicken fillet instead of the usual soft chewable chicken mince patty? Arrrgh!Guaranteed - you are going to leave Jus Burgers with your waist bordering another size, and with a big smile of satisfaction - counting in your head how many hours are acceptable to return there without being labelled a burger junky. Although.... if you pay for a take-away and pig your meal out hidden from the world elsewhere, nobody will notice.
UPDATE 22/8/2012
I was there about 3-4 weeks ago with friends, and the burgers were a shadow of what they used to be in presentation and taste.
I ordered one of the vegan burgers, and it was not especially tasty. Mediocre. The onion rings were, in taste, as good as the ones you could find at Mackos or Hungry Jacks or any other shop. The fries were OK. I did not taste my friends' food, but they definitely are not the super-fresh gorgeous looking burgers that made me addicted to the place when it opened.
The service is still excellent, very fast and friendly, though.
It must be the decrease in the quality of the food what explains why the place is not as crowded as used to be.
I hate when businesses do this to themselves - downgrading themselves in a spiral that goes from up do down to failure by taking customers for granted.
